Members of the U.S. military who are transferred to California pursuant to orders will normally be classified as nonresidents for tuition purposes. However, the member, spouse or registered domestic partner, and dependents maybe eligible for exemption from nonresident tuition under the member of the military exemption.

Members of the U.S. military who are trying to reclaim Calfornia residence should see Temporary Absence for information about what is expected in order to reclaim residence. Former members of the military who move to California and are no longer in the service must meet regular residence requirements.
